The future of business cards

In an increasingly digital age, the traditional business card seems to be on the decline. However, for many, the art and creativity that goes into designing and printing a beautiful business card is still appreciated. Macbeth Lankester, a creative agency based in London, is one such company that still values the process of creating a business card. Despite this, they haven’t handed out a physical business card in the last three years.

The post-pandemic world has accelerated the move towards digital solutions, and the rise of smart digital business cards is a clear example of this trend. There are several examples on the market, such as V1CE and Mobilo, with more options emerging all the time.

So, how do these smart digital business cards work, and are they worth it?

The basic concept is that they are digital versions of a traditional business card that can be tapped on a smart phone and instantly share all your information. They can include features such as clickable links to social media profiles, websites, and even a call-to-action button.

One of the main advantages is that they are environmentally friendly and cost-effective as you only need one.
However, there are also some disadvantages to smart digital business cards. Some people may not want you to just tap there phone and share information, there is also risk that these digital cards may be lost or forgotten. But fundamentally it may also be down to how often you review your contacts, you still need to actively recall someone and they want to search for their information.
The rise of the LinkedIn QR code.

Our favourite digital business app is the LinkedIn app. Here when you meet someone (as long as they have the app) you can scan a QR code and instantly connect with someone on the platform.

Once you have their contact details in your phone, there’s no need to worry about losing the card or forgetting the details. Furthermore, if you’re already connected on LinkedIn, being active on the platform keeps you in the minds-eye of your contacts.

To find the QR code on the LinkedIn mobile app, simply go to your profile and click on the QR code icon. From there, your code will appear, ready to be scanned by others.

In conclusion, the future of business cards is undoubtedly digital.

While traditional business cards will always have a place in our hearts, the ease of sharing, environmental benefits, and technological advancements of digital cards make them an attractive option. Whether you choose to stick with a physical card or make the switch to digital, the key is to make sure that your data is up to date and most importantly you follow up with your contacts, stay connected and build those relationships.
