The role of marketing in green job creation

A recent article in Edie magazine has reported that the number of green jobs in the UK has reached a new high. This is great to see but not a trend just limited to the UK, as according to IRENA the renewable energy sector is creating more jobs globally, particularly in solar energy.

However, our client, Daniel Gäefke from BayWa r.e., notes in a recent LinkedIn article that the industry will still face a challenge due to a lack of skills and training, which will likely limit its growth.

So, what needs to happen?

To address this issue, it is crucial for governments, educational institutions, and businesses to invest in the training and development of skills for the renewable energy sector. Additionally, supportive policies and incentives that encourage investment and innovation are essential in ensuring the growth of the sector.

The role of marketing

Marketing and PR can play a pivotal role in promoting green jobs and attracting more individuals to pursue careers in the renewable energy sector.

Companies can raise awareness about the importance of working in this sector by creating engaging content that highlights the benefits of green jobs and their impact on the environment. They can also showcase the different types of jobs available and the required skills and qualifications for each role.

Through social media videos of people working in the sector and providing information on training and education programs, marketing campaigns can effectively promote the sector.

Community engagement (a key part for any renewable developer) is also a great opportunity to promote green jobs, and offer partnerships with local schools and community groups to provide information and resources on renewable energy or organise job fairs and other events.

Overall, marketing can have a significant impact in driving interest and action towards a more sustainable future by raising awareness, highlighting career opportunities, engaging with communities, and showcasing the impact of green jobs.

So, get creating.
